AMERICAN INSTITUTE OF INDIAN STUDIES
American
Institute of Indian Studies (AIIS) is a consortium of universities and
colleges in America, engaged in teaching and research about India. Since
1961, the Institute has endeavoured, through its programs of research,
documentation, fellowship supports and publications, to achieve an accurate
and probing knowledge of India's cultures, history, languages, and present
day dynamics. The Institute has sponsored publication of several thousands
of books by scholars. In addition to this, some 75 books have been published
directly by the Institute.
Most of these
are volumes that result from the continuing series of scholarly conferences
held by the Institute or volumes that include collections of essays by
several scholars. Through its own publications and those of its fellows,
the Institute seeks to make the results of this research widely available
and easily accessible to people with an abiding interest in India.The Institute
since its inception has produced books and articles on topics as varied
as:
Art, Architecture
and Archaeology
Languages,
Literature and Linguistics
