Book Prize

Karline McLain of Bucknell University won an AIIS Book Prize in 2007 for India’s Immortal Comic Books: Gods, Kings and other Heroes.

The AIIS Prize

In 2002, AIIS established an annual book prize for the best unpublished book manuscript on an Indian subject.

With the support of an internal Publications Committee, two prizes are awarded each year:

  • The Edward Cameron Dimock, Jr. Prize in the Indian Humanities
  • The Joseph W. Elder Prize in the Indian Social Sciences

The Institute also recently began a new series of AIIS publications designed to facilitate the publication of first books by younger India specialists. The book series Contemporary Indian Studies, consisting of AIIS prize-winning books, is published by Indiana University Press.  The books are available at: http://www.iupress.indiana.edu/catalog/index.php?cPath=1037_3130_3217

A one-day workshop on turning a dissertation into a book is also offered.
