Welcome to the shared electronic space of Independent Scholars of South Asia.

Some History

The organization began almost fifteen years ago to provide an academic "home" for those with a passion for South Asia, a commitment to serious scholarship, and a career path without a tenure track academic position. Over the years, members have included, for example, museum curators, administrators in related scholarly orgnizations, musicians and dancers, retired colleagues, and curriculum development officials. ISOSA has welcomed therapists, those in the international development, banking, business, and aid communities, librarians, art collectors, foreign scholars, and academics in temporary positions. The academic output of ISOSA members has been prodigious, probably larger than any single university. ISOSA has also had as members those in teunure-track positions who support independent scholarship on South Asia. All we ask of members is a continuing commitment to the region , such as panel presentations, writing for peer-reviewed journals, curating shows on South Asia, performances, or policy-related publications.

The easiest way to post material to the ISOSA web site is as a file attached to email. The format is important. Simplest is HTML format. If you have the capability to write in this format, please do so. The next easiest format is as a WORD document. I can open this and convert it to HTML. Another alternative is Text-only format, though this takes a bit of juggling to get it into the site. Send material to me at GORDONSTU@AOL.COM.
