AIIS Communication Specialist Position Available

The American Institute of Indian Studies is hiring a Part-time Communications Specialist. The Communication Specialist would be expected to work closely with the Executive Director of the American Institute of Indian Studies to implement a communications strategy to engage and build the AIIS constituency. The Communication Specialist would be expected to:

  1. Work with the AIIS Executive Director to create and execute a ‘Content Calendar’ including monthly campaigns, social media posting, other A/V material, and newsletters
  2. Manage social media accounts and content for the American Institute of Indian Studies including but not limited to:
    1. Facebook
    1. Instagram
    1. Twitter/X
    1. Email reminders
  3. Help to produce eye-catching graphics, flyers, etc. for US and Indian programs
  4. Write and produce a monthly newsletter to be sent on Mailchimp
  5. Work with the Executive Director and Director-General in India to research, produce, and transmit monthly short podcasts (15 min.) to be published on various podcasting hosts/apps
  6. Explore additional avenues for publicity of AIIS language and fellowship programs
  7. Website planning as necessary
  8. Other communications tasks as needed
  9. Create an annual communication report

Required Qualifications

  1. Excellent writing and communications skills
  2. Excellent Graphic and Web design skills
  3. Familiarity with Social Media communication including scheduling platforms
  4. Familiarity with South Asia, higher education, and international studies
  5. Basic Data Analysis skills

Optional Qualifications

  1. Audio and Video editing skills
  2. Web Design skills

This position would be for between 10-18 hours per week paid hourly at a pay range between $15-$23 per hour depending on experience. The position would include 2 weeks paid leave, additional paid leave during the University of Pittsburgh winter break closure (Dec. 24-Jan 1), and flexible unpaid leave time as appropriate. Communication Specialist will report to the AIIS Executive Director and may be asked to work with other members of the board of trustees as applicable within the hours provided.
