AIIS supports international learning opportunities in India for students and faculty through a variety of programs, either directly through AIIS or in partnership with CAORC, or AIIS-assisted single-institution initiatives. Faculty at US institutions often want to create discipline-specific study abroad courses based in India that will provide institutionally recognized course credit for their students. To help support these faculty-led initiatives, AIIS now provides a collaboration opportunity for faculty. Any US-based faculty member can submit their India study abroad course ideas using the Google form below.

Submission will be listed publicly using the link below and with AIIS delegates (representing its 90 member campuses) with a request to distribute the submissions on their respective campuses. AIIS will host this online portal to facilitate connecting programs with complementary goals to aid in program success, provide assistance in consolidating site visits*, work with local organizations/campuses, and help to build budgets for a proposed program.

Collaborative course considerations:

  • Program Size – Two or more institutions can be involved in the collaboration. You will want to determine how big you want the program to be for your course goal, as well as the ability to cover your campus’ costs in offering the program.
  • Course Credit – Consider what kind of course credit your institution can provide and whether your institution will provide transfer credit for the partner institution’s students.
  • Format and Location – Determine whether all or part of your course will be in India and/or if any amount could be combined with or offset with virtual instruction.
  • Budget – Estimate course/travel costs and how much the other institution(s) would need to provide in the partnership. Envision a collaboration across two and possibly three campuses to make the needed student participation numbers.
  • Complementary Disciplines – When you submit your proposal, be sure to note what disciplines/courses would be complementary to yours. One of the goals of this initiative is to foster new topics for research and learning in the undergraduate context.

*AIIS has several partnerships with Indian academic institutions and NGOs and can help guide you and your collaborators as you determine the outline of your program. For any collaborative program questions, contact Director General Purnima Mehta in Delhi and Chair of International Learning Committee, Dr. Sandria Freitag

Submissions will be accepted during the fall/spring for the next academic year. Submissions may be prepared at any time, but ensure you consult with your Study Abroad office to meet its lead-time timelines, building in the additional time you will need to work with one or more collaborators.
