Archives and Research Center for Ethnomusicology

ARCE works to preserve India’s rich heritage of music, performance and oral traditions through its projects of documentation and research, and an audio-visual archive which preserves and provides access to 25,000 hours of recordings, not only to the interested public but through proactive outreach to communities. Online access to curated materials is available through platforms such as Smithsonian Folkways and the Virtual Museum of Images and Sounds.

The Digital India Learning (DIL) initiative of the American Institute of Indian Studies (AIIS) promotes the creation and use of digital resources and media for the study of India, facilitates training in digital methodologies, strengthens India-related collections and projects in U.S. libraries, and fosters the digital production and dissemination of knowledge about India. AIIS’s DIL builds upon, extends and strengthens the AIIS core mission.
